There are not many places to access the Enoree River from public property, without being in the National Forest. There is only one place that I have found so far. I am always looking for new public access on South Carolina waterways, so I will update this listing as I find new Locations that will work for dredgeing access.
Jones Bridge on State Highway 98–from Whitmire, take State Highway 72 west to State Highway 26, for about 11 miles. Turn right and go about 5 miles to the first stop sign. Turn right (north) onto State Highway 98 and continue about 2 miles until you come to the Enoree River. There is a small parking area on the right side of the road just before the bridge. (Be very careful here, The opposite side of the river is Sumter National Forest (It is illeagal to dredge on the downstream side of the bridge)... once you go upstream under the bridge, you are on completely private property, both sides of the river. I have not been to this location. I do not know anything about the condition of this access or if there is any gold in the location. It is published as a public canoeing access that is surrounded by private land. The Enoree River is navigable, so in the state of South Carolina the riverbed cannot be privately owned.) I would expect to get harrassed by the USFS in this location!!! |
